Pinewood Derby

Annual Pack Pinewood Derby event.

Race will be run by den. Scouts will be given a pinewood derby kit between December Pack meeting and mid-January.

Friday – Check-in from 6-8 PM @ the Chapel at Johns Creek UMC (it’s to the left of the playground on the southside facing Bell Rd
– If you arrive at 6, we may ask you to help setup the track. Cars cannot be tested on the track until the track is setup.
– Do not leave the car at the door earlier in the day. If you cannot make it, please drop it in the clear tub outside my front door (10110 Twingate Dr). I’ll be leaving my house at 5:30 with the tub.
– We will have hot glue guns, SOME weights (don’t plan on maxing your car to 5.0 oz when you arrive, pack weights are just for last second adjustments),
– All cars must be 5.00 oz or less using the pack scales. If your home scale says 5.0 and ours says 5.04, you’ll need to remove weight from the car.
– We suggest writing the individuals name on the bottom of the car (scout/parent/siblings name)
– Once a car is weighed and checked in, only race volunteers will be allowed to touch it.
– If you have some free time and are willing to help me clean out the Pack storage trailer, please come find me (you can see me to the left of the Chapel entrance)
– Once cars are checked in, they will be judged for awards

Saturday – Den Racing from 9 AM to noon in the Chapel
– Assuming all runs smoothly, we plan on starting the den race at the time listed below. Scouts should plan on arriving on time or earlier. We will not wait for scouts to start the racing.
– If you arrive early, be respectful of the space where scouts are watching their cars race. If your scout is noisy or disruptive, please take them outside.
– If a car falls apart on the track (i.e. wheels fall off), we may delay racing so it can be fixed (max 5 minutes). This is not an opportunity to make changes to the car, just to get it functional again.
– Cars should not be touched by scouts during racing.
– We will keep the top 3 cars from each den to race in the afternoon finals.
– Lions race 9-9:30, including medal ceremony for top 3 in the den.
– Tigers race 9:30-10, including medal ceremony for top 3 in the den.
– Wolves race 10-10:30, including medal ceremony for top 3 in the den.
